Move your diagrams to Modudraft

Bring what you already drew from another tool. Each tool has its own page with how to export, where to load it, what carries over and what does not.

Why move to Modudraft

Your diagrams do not have to stay where they were drawn. Bring one in and it becomes a living part of your project, not a picture:

  • One diagram with levels. Group components and open one to see what is inside it, from the big picture down to the parts. It is all one diagram with one history and one share link. See Levels and C4.
  • The other tabs. The same components can feed a database schema, an API, sequences, data flows and a cloud view, so the architecture and the details stay together.
  • An agent through MCP. Your AI agent can read and edit the diagram, and the CI drift check can flag when the code and the diagram drift apart. See the MCP docs and the CI drift check.

Every import on the web works the same way: open a diagram, then Import in the toolbar, then Open a file… (Mermaid has its own Paste Mermaid… item). Files are limited to 5 MB, and imports aren't possible on a view-only diagram. If the diagram already has content on any tab, you are asked "Replace current diagram?" first. The import replaces every tab and can't be undone, so import into a new, empty diagram.

Pick your tool

  • Structurizr

You bring: A .dsl, a .json or a .zip of the workspace folder.

Carries over: Levels, groups, relationships, dynamic views as sequences, deployment, documentation and decisions. An agent can import again later to update in place. You can export a diagram back to Structurizr DSL or JSON.

Does not: styles, themes, remote includes and the other items listed on its page.

  • draw.io

    You bring: A .drawio file.

Carries over: Shapes as components, attached arrows with labels, and the positions you drew.

Does not: containers as boundaries, styling, and every page after the first.

  • Lucidchart

You bring: A Visio export, .vsdx.

Carries over: Shapes as components and attached connectors as arrows, through the Visio reader.

Does not: styling, icons and every page after the first.

  • Visio

    You bring: A .vsdx file.

Carries over: Shapes as components, glued connectors as arrows, and your layout.

Does not: older .vsd files, shape libraries, styling and every page after the first.

  • Excalidraw

    You bring: A .excalidraw file.

Carries over: Boxes as components, attached arrows with labels, and frames and groups as boundaries.

Does not: loose text, lines, drawings, images and styling.

  • Mermaid

You bring: Flowchart text, pasted or from a .mmd file.

Carries over: Nodes as components (the shape sets the type), links as arrows, and subgraphs as boundaries.

Does not: other Mermaid diagram types and all styling.

Only Structurizr can be imported through an agent today. For the other tools, the MCP server can write draw.io and Mermaid files from your diagram, but its import does not read them.
